Five $20 Business Ideas you Can Make Money from Now

If you’re dreaming about starting a business, you may not be one of the lucky ones who has a “lightning bolt” idea moment. You may be fed up with your current job or financial situation. It could be just a thought you’re entertaining.

That’s your WHY and a crucial step is to find and own your reason. So, congratulations for that!

Now, you need to find an idea that will keep you in business for years to come. Your dream business will also need to bring in cash, give you satisfaction and fulfillment and keep your customers coming back again and again.

So, today I’m going to start you off with several dream business ideas that will make you money sooner than later. Then I’ll share even more ideas and how to decide which business is a match made in heaven for you.

BUT First…Let’s talk about your business plans

Everything starts with a plan. The idea is the very, very first step. But I would be doing you an injustice if I didn’t stress the importance of a business plan. Most people jump from idea to action, including calling me for marketing help.

They skip the step that could mean the difference between a booming dream business and a nightmare of a lesson learned. Plan for the business you’ve wanted and waited so long for.

So here are the steps to creating the business of your dreams:

  1. Discover your Why
  2. Brainstorm for the perfect business idea
  3. Write your business plan
  4. Execute the plan
  5. Market and sell like your life depends on it
  6. Provide a high quality product and excellent customer service
  7. Re-invest in your business
  8. Expand your business
  9. Remember your Why and review your business plan
  10. Repeat steps 4-7

Remember this workflow as you think about what business you wouldn’t mind working this hard for. I’ve got some planning tips coming up for you, but today I’ll be sharing what it takes to nail the idea.

5 Low Investment Business Ideas you Can Start Online Now

These aren’t just any old, low cost business ideas

Some businesses take time to generate revenue, especially when it’s easy to get started. For example, you can start a podcast for zero dollars. And for a while, you could also make zero dollars from your podcast.

When it comes to a money-making podcast, numbers don’t lie. You need sponsors, and they’ll want to see you draw an audience who will  listen to their ads.

So, unless you already have a multitude of followers somewhere in the digital landscape, this won’t happen overnight. It will happen over time with: 1. a podcast that teaches or entertains and 2. a solid marketing plan.

The same is the case for a vlogger, social media influencer, affiliate marketer or any business that depends on building an audience and motivating them to buy or take action.

Here are five low investment businesses that will help you start raking in cash INSTANTANEOUSLY:

1. Designer- (Website Designer, Graphic Designer, Brand Stylist, etc.)

Since this is my industry, I can tell you firsthand that you really can start making money as a graphic designer from day one. In fact, I shared with my email list, how I made an instant sale after sharing a post on Instagram

If you sign up for a marketplace website like Incluzion, Fiverr or Upwork, it will cost you nothing upfront. Or you can put your skills to work and setup your own website. Give it all the bells and whistles and let that speak for the quality of your design skills.

2. Online Shop Owner

The types of shops you can open are endless. It could be based on a hobby or interest of yours or something you’ve seen people in the market requesting. A few things to get your started are baked goods, handmade goods, clothing, digital products, affiliate products, vintage items, print-on-demand (POD) t-shirts and merchandise.

To set up your shop, you can use an open source platform like WordPress along with WooCommerce for zero dollars. The only thing you’ll need to pay for is the domain name ($11 or less) and the hosting service ($3.95 per month)

3. Consultant or Coach

What do you know like the back of your hand? Start teaching other people how to do it. It’s really that simple. It starts with helping one person or sending an email that solves the problem and gets results.

Ask them to share the good news and get testimonials and reviews. Toot your horn and praise your client! Combine that with a solid marketing strategy. The word will spread like wildfire and your business will flourish.

4. Social Media Manager (or Pinterest VA)

You need a combination of things to start a social media marketing agency, but a pile of cash isn’t one of those things. Since it’s strictly digital, all you need is a device, design software, and creative skills.

You need to be strong in copywriting, good at graphics and able to engage a crowd. Your client’s numbers depend on it. The most important (but least discussed) skills are understanding analytics, hashtag research, ad targeting and calculating customer acquisition costs (CAC) and return on investment (ROI).

5. Freelance Writer

Call it beating a dead horse with the freelance writer business idea, but facts are facts. Content (whether video, graphic, audio or written) is still king of the internet streets. I’ve created and hired enough to know.

That means opportunities are endless. You have a chance to write about anything you can imagine! And you can make a shiz load of money doing it.

Become a pro at pitching, reach out to businesses in your niche of choice, or apply to write for a content or marketing agency. Not one of these entry methods will cost you a coin. Only time.

To build or not to build a website as a startup

Most of these businesses don’t even require a website to start. You can begin with a landing page (and free email marketing platform), a social media account or a free service to display your portfolio of work.

These are just a few ideas to get your mind turning, but there are plenty more where they came from. The best thing to do is to think about your interests, strengths and what’s in demand.

Brainstorming is an age old strategy that still works! So, here’s what I have in store for you (rubs hands together).

My Dream Business Brainstorming Worksheet will help you tap into your genius and discover your dream business idea. After going through the short exercise, you’ll find a business idea you’re good at and you love to do.
